If you have passed your CNA certification exam, the good news is that there are plenty of CNA job openings in every state. However, to get the best CNA job, you’d need to create a good impression during your CNA job interview. A job interview does give people butterflies in the stomach with nervousness. Any job interview makes a candidate apprehensive; whether it is the first job you are interviewing for or just changing jobs. To be successful in your job interview, here are a few tips to overcome some of the fears you may have.

First of all, prepare yourself at least a week prior to the date of your job interview for CNA. Read up on all the literature available online and offline, to get updated information on CNAs. Being prepared with your answers beforehand will enable you to respond in a precise manner and to the point.

CNA Job Interview Questions

Some of the questions asked during CNA job interview are:

Your reasons for choosing a career in CNA?

Your reasons as to why you want to work in that specific healthcare facility?

Your reasons for looking for a change in employment in case you have been working as a CNA elsewhere and are now seeking a change.

Whether you would be willing to undergo a background check in case the interviewer wants to check with your employers?

If you can cite your career pluses and minuses in terms of being in the field of a CNA and related activities?

If you have set your goals and what are your ambitions for your future?

How you would react to a serious mistake made by a colleague?

What benefits and advantages or knowledge in terms of value-addition would you bring to the new organization, the patients and your co-workers if you were selected to join?

If you are able to do some out of the box thinking on your own, you will already be able to come up with typical questions you might be expected to answer and prepare yourself accordingly. Request a friend or someone close to you to quiz you with some random questions for practice. Do some background research on the facility you are going to be interviewed for so you know something about the place you will join if selected. You too can be prepared to ask your own questions of the interviewer, which would display an interest on your part.

It also helps if you can talk to yourself in front of a mirror to boost your confidence, telling yourself that you are an outstanding certified nursing assistant. This will help you have a better image of yourself before and during the interview. Display confidence to the interviewer, even if you are actually feeling nervous.

Make sure you are dressed appropriately for your CNA job interview. Your sense of dressing is a big indicator of the kind of person you are. Wear a decently colored combination of trousers or skirt with a matching blouse, if you are a woman or a dress shirt with dress pants, if you are a man. Do not over-dress but do not underplay by wearing casuals.

Bring your skills and talents to the attention of the interviewer when asked questions about yourself. Be and feel proud of your profession and your commitment towards helping in caring for patients.

Appropriate dressing and personal maintenance is important in almost all professions. For Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), professional appearance and personal hygiene is more important compared to any other professions. It is a reflection of how a CNA will take care of their patient’s personal hygiene.

Certified nursing assistants who are particular about their personal hygiene clearly show their commitment to their profession. Since, CNAs are in the profession of maintaining the daily well being of others, it is necessary that they show their ability of maintaining their own hygiene.

You can perform your duties as a CNA with ease if your clothing are comfortable and suitable for your job requirements. Being in an appropriate dress is required for nurse and other clinical personnel. Nursing assistants have to wear nursing scrubs while performing their daily job. The style or color of scrubs may vary according to the employer but wearing scrubs is a must. It is better to have enough sets of so that you always have a clean set of scrubs for you to wear. As wrinkles give unprofessional look, always wear properly washed and pressed scrubs which will give you a smart appearance. You can get sets of scrubs and accessories for nurses and nursing assistants at affordable price in different stores.

Clog style nursing shoes are usually used in almost all working environments. Open toed shoes are normally not allowed for CNA jobs. Compression hosiery is recommended for persons having troubles with their legs. This will relieve thigh and calf pain caused from long periods of standing. Wear sturdy footwear so that you will feel comfortable while performing your duties.

Make sure you are dressed appropriately for your job as a CNA. As a Certified Nursing Assistant has to clothe, feed and help patients all day, you need to tie your hair properly. Your hairstyle should not be a barrier for your work. Keep your nails dirt-free and neatly trimmed. Avoid wearing real or faux long nails which collect bacteria and germs particularly during the cleaning or changing of a patient after defecation or urination. Take a shower or bath, brush your teeth, and wash your hair everyday. Avoid wearing colognes or perfumes as emitting odors is not healthy. Even your patients or co-workers who share close spaces with you may not like such an unpleasant odors. Wear minimum jewelry so that it will not disturb you while treating a patient. And of course, you need to abide by the simplest health precautions like washing your hands properly before and after dealing with patients, to control infections. Each and everyday, you should strive to make yourself an example of utmost personal hygiene.

They may not teach about persoanl appearance in the CNA Training Programs, but if you wish to be a successful CNA, you should invest time make sure you are appropriately dressed for the job and maintain a high level of personal hygiene yourself.

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program can be just what you need if you are looking for a career in health care. There is an accelerated growth in the health care sector and the demand for CNA jobs is quite high and expected to increase more in the coming years.

All you need is a high school diploma or a GED. Since it is so easy to enroll for CNA program it is all the more alluring. The course can be finished in 1 ½-3 months and is available at community colleges and medical facilities. The syllabus consists of nutrition, infection control, anatomy and physiology and instruction in the basics of nursing. A CNA certificate will be issued to you after finishing the program. This can be used to register with National Association for Home Care.

A CNA is required to work under a licensed nurse and aid patients in their day to day activities. For example – bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding. They would also be required to help patients be organized, assisting with motion exercises etc. A CNA would be required to document all crucial and essential information regarding condition of patients and would also need to offer emotional support to patients when they are low. They would provide the nurse with appropriate feedback pertaining the patients.

CNAs can find work at hospitals and nursing homes, assisted living facilities, mental health institutions and private home environments. CNAs can expect their earnings to be between 23-30 thousand dollars per year. Salary could also be based on the chosen work environment and clinical experience.

The CNA program is essentially a good choice for people who would rather not commit to lengthy programs. One would acquire the work experience and could use this as a launchpad to becoming a registered nurse (RN). It therefore makes sense to consider CNA as a career.

A CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) is a trained health care professional who works closely under the supervision of an RN (Registered Nurse) in a hospitals, adult day health centers, nursing homes, or even personal homes.

Certified Nursing Assistants, in general, take care of the most basic health care needs of the patients. Since nurse assistants have regular daily contact with the patients, they are the ones who provide vital information about the condition of patients to the registered nurse. CNAs are considered as eyes and ears of the nurses. Thus, a career of a certified nursing assistant can be challenging, satisfying and rewarding in many ways.

There are many benefits of starting out your career as a Certified Nursing Assistant or CNA. The first advantage is that you can become a CNA in fairly short amount of time. Depending upon the CNA program, it may take just only four to six weeks to complete the CNA course requirements and the examinations; and you could be earning more than minimum wages as a Certified Nursing Assistant, in as little as eight weeks.

There are plenty of CNA jobs available, even during this phase of economic recession. So if you become a CAN, your skills will be in high demand. There are roughly 1.8 million nursing assistants employed in the United States. CNAs are recruited in a variety of health care facilities including hospitals, clinics, and homes for the aged. The employee turnover in CNA profession is huge as many CNAs usually pursue advanced training to be come a Registered Nurse. Thus, there is clearly a high growth rate for Certified Nursing Assistants.

As a CNA, you will not only earn more than minimum wages, but you may also advance your career to registered nursing career. In other words, nurses are in demand, and it is a great time to pursue a career in nursing, should it be a good fit for your personality. To some people, being a Nursing Assistant is ‘just a job’ to pay the bills and nothing more. These people have made a wrong choice in selecting the nursing career. It is the patients who will suffer because of wrong career choice of such nursing assistants. So before making the choice to enter this profession, one has to understand the duties of a CNA and should also realize that

CNAs may have to do hard manual work such as lifting and transferring patients on a regular basis.

The pay rates for CNA jobs may be lower than other health care jobs.

CNAs must work in shifts, on week-ends, and holidays, which may interfere with personal life.

If you derive satisfaction taking care of others, love to be present with patients and families, love the challenges of being reponsible to others, and if you are willing to work in shits and not shun from physical work, then nursing assistant may be the right choice of career for you.
