A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program can be just what you need if you are looking for a career in health care.  There is an accelerated growth in the health care sector and the demand for CNA jobs is quite high and expected to increase more in the coming years.

CNA CareerAll you need is a high school diploma or a GED.  Since it is so easy to enroll for CNA program it is all the more alluring.  The course can be finished in 1 ½-3 months and is available at community colleges and medical facilities.  The syllabus consists of nutrition, infection control, anatomy and physiology and instruction in the basics of nursing.  A CNA certificate will be issued to you after finishing the program.  This can be used to register with National Association for Home Care.

A CNA is required to work under a licensed nurse and aid patients in their day to day activities.  For example – bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding. They would also be required to help patients be organized, assisting with motion exercises etc.  A CNA would be required to document all crucial and essential information regarding condition of patients and would also need to offer emotional support to patients when they are low. They would provide the nurse with appropriate feedback pertaining the patients.

CNAs can find work at hospitals and nursing homes, assisted living facilities, mental health institutions and private home environments.  CNAs can expect their earnings to be between 23-30 thousand dollars per year.  Salary could also be based on the chosen work environment and clinical experience.

The CNA program is essentially a good choice for people who would rather not commit to lengthy programs.  One would acquire the work experience and could use this as a launchpad to becoming a registered nurse (RN).  It therefore makes sense to consider CNA as a career.
